Grace's Story (new!)

Hi,
my name is Carolyn Troughton
I
am a daughter, a wife, and a mother. Epilepsy has been a part of my
life, and consequently the lives of those I love, for the past 13 years
– the impact of which has been enormous. Every day I experience
physically debilitating effects, incredible emotional side effects,
frustration through the inability to have complete independence in my
life (I cannot for example, drive a car or bath my baby), constant fear
as to what "could" happen at anytime of the day or night (when
I was pregnant there was the worry of having a seizure and falling out
of bed onto my stomach), limitations enforced on my everyday life,
having to negotiate and find alternative solutions to simple everyday
tasks, and my infinite need to take medication. The list of negatives
and constraints, and concerns and inabilities that I could present is
huge. Yet despite this, I know I am really one of the "lucky"
ones.
"Lucky" may seem an odd choice
of words for me to use. Yet there are thousands of others out there
whose situations and epilepsy related problems absolutely belittle my
own. On the whole, my life does continue to take place in a relatively
normal way. With the love and support of my family, friends, and
Epilepsy Queensland, I have adjusted. However for those people for whom
epilepsy affects their lives in infinitely more dramatic and
debilitating ways, there is an even greater need for professional
assistance and support. It is so criminal to see restrictions and
limitations being set upon the help that can be given to people
in need, when the limiting factor is money.
A donation, no matter how small, allows
Epilepsy Queensland to continue and develop key community services for
people with epilepsy. The need is so great and at present, so vital.
I ask that you be positive and proactive
in your response to this letter. If nothing else, please be conscious of
the fact that you have the benefit of choice in how you respond
– a person with epilepsy doesn’t have the luxury of choice in
so very many aspects of their life.
I thank you for your assistance and urge
you to complete the form and send it back to Epilepsy Queensland. My
family and I rely upon the assistance that they provide, as do thousands
of other Queensland adults and children. Please help us.
Regards,
Carolyn
