Epilepsy Queensland Inc receives funding from "Disability
Services Queensland" to continue providing
a Family Support Program, aimed at improving the quality of life for families
of and people with uncontrolled epilepsy and epilepsy accompanied by a
developmental or acquired disability. (The Program has been funded to
work predominately with families where the person with epilepsy is a child,
aged birth to 18 years).
As Co-Ordinator of the "Family Support Program",
Janine will assist families through information, counselling, peer
support, advocacy and education.
A diagnosis of Epilepsy has implications for the entire family, particularly
if this is compounded by another disability, and/or does not respond well
to medication. Janine can provide counselling and support to families experiencing
such difficulties, either over the phone or in person. If possible,
Janine may be able to make arrangements to come to you. Janine is also hoping
to enhance the support networks which exist for families to support one
another, either through support groups, phone contact, or newsletters.
Janine has a state wide newsletter for families living with uncontrolled
epilepsy, so, if you would like to receive this newsletter, or even better
contribute, please contact Janine.
The Family Support Program also provides assistance to families in identifying
and accessing other support services; individual problem identification
and problem solving strategy development; advice on behaviour management
and learning difficulties; advocacy; specifically designed workshops and
seminars for families; and education and training for service providers
and other community networks.
So if you think Janine may be able to assist you, or even if you just
want to ring for a chat, please call Janine at the office on (07) 3435
5000 or 1300 852 853 (outside Brisbane)
